Timezone
Trieste
I look for places and cities where the time is frozen, and where life, and atmosphere are like an apparently endless suspension of time. Places that are often peripherals, away from any neuralgic point of the current history or economy. I brought to the Time Zone Project the experiences of two places very different in their appearences but similar for their situation, in one side the utopian town Arcosanti ,the creation of the architect Paolo Soleri in the desert of Arizona, a city never developed because of the real evident difficulties of real life in the desert and the surviving of a different sense of collectivity and community despite the mainstream idea of community in the north American society. In the other side I brought the experience made in a three years project on Trieste the first Italian cosmopolitan cities that a century ago was a perfect melting pot of different cultures and religions and now after the second world war after the Nazi persecutions and the cold war seems to go to a slow but definitive decline, a city where ordinary life seems an dream sleep over the recent past.
