Tangophoto. Towards a dance, movement flowing into movement. The photographer in the flux, making a moment.
A multicultural group, a multiplicity of experience, a cosmopolitain ogranization. Supported by a network of cultural insitutions, media, editors, agencies, independent photographers and creative artists, Tangophoto functions not in a single office in a single city, but as a web across many cities around the globe. Pablo Carrera Oser in Buenos Aires; Hisashi Muruyama in New York; Fillippo Romano in Milan; Jan Michalko in Berlin; Thierry Kleiner in Bern; David Damoison, Nathalie Desserme, Olivier Thébaud, and Cyrille Weiner in Paris.
The members of Tangophoto support a free photography, a documentation of many perspectives. Created in 1996, Tangophoto's nine members grouped in order to produce and distribute their images. These photographers emphasize long-term projects and experimentations that explore the varied paths between documentary photography and contemporary photo-art.
Their work has been shown in many international newspapers: Le Monde, Courrier International, Libération, L'Humanité, The New York Times, The Guardian, Frankfurter Allgemeine; international magazines: Leica World, Zoom, Private, Soda Magazine; and has exhibited regularly: Photo Biennale de Canton, RIP Arles, Festival des Trois Continents, Visa pour l’Image Perpignan.
Since 1998, www.tangophoto.net has offered a multimedia showcase for their documents and photographic research.
un collectif multiculturel
Tangophoto est un collectif composé de neuf jeunes auteurs photographes. Au-delà de la diversité des styles et des écritures, la cohésion du groupe s’articule autour d’une manière d’être, d’une approche sensible du monde et d’un intérêt partagé à photographier la vie. Le groupe crée le dynamique nécessaire à l’approfondissement des actions collectives et des sujets traités. Il permet de croiser les styles et les approches, de multiplier les points de vue et de favoriser les échanges.
Le collectif est créé en 1996. Il compte neuf photographes, associés pour la production et la diffusion de leurs images. Tous questionnent la manière de photographier le réel, explorant un chemin entre le photojournalisme et la création photographique contemporaine. L’unité du groupe se fonde sur un désir partagé de capter la réalité telle qu’elle est, telle que les hommes la vivent au quotidien, pour mieux la comprendre ou très simplement y confronter notre sensibilité.
Le groupe expérimente une forme alternative d’organisation et de diffusion des photographies : une structure très légère qui s’appuie sur un réseau international lié à des agences photo, des photographes indépendants, des éditeurs et des institutions culturelles.
